Faster check-in at Paris Gare du Nord

28th February 2008

Nobody likes to come home after a short break in Paris, but at least travellers may soon have the consolation of a smooth experience when catching their return train.

A number of changes are being made at Paris Gare du Nord that will make heading back to the UK a whole lot easier.

Work began this week on improving the check-in facilities at the station in order to keep queuing to a minimum and quicken passengers' access to the departure lounge.

Among the new additions being made are the introduction of new check-in desks, the increase of capacity at border control and an extra x-ray machine. Looking ahead, a trial of bar-code ticketing is due to take place later this year, which could reduce check-in times even more.

Since the High Speed 1 service launched last November, record numbers of people have been heading to Paris by rail, which has increased the need for a smoother passenger experience.

The changes are expected to have been completed by summer, with most of the work being carried out at night. Until then, passengers are nevertheless advised to make sure that they arrive five to ten minutes earlier than they would normally to check-in.

Rail travellers from the UK can visit Paris by catching high-speed services from St Pancras International or Ebbsfleet International.
