Eurostar set for St Pancras International
16th August 2007
Eurostar is set to launch its services from St Pancras International on Wednesday November 14th.
The high-speed train operator, which runs services between the UK and the continent, is moving from its current base at Waterloo International to the new home, which is located in central London, just three tube stops away from Moorgate and Covent Garden.
Relocating to St Pancras International will allow Eurostar to offer better connections throughout the UK and quicker services to the continent. For example, the fastest possible journey from London to Paris will be 20 minutes quicker at two hours 15 minutes.
The six-platform station is promised to be "a destination in itself", complete with shops, bars and restaurants. Included in the project is the regeneration of a 37-acre area to the north of the site and the restoration and conversion of St Pancras Chambers.
Eurostar put the first seats to travel from St Pancras International on sale on July 24th. In the first two weeks of ticket sales, more than 110,000 passengers were booked on to services travelling between November 14th and Christmas.
Commenting on the surge, Eurostar chief executive Richard Brown said: "More and more travellers are realising that going by Eurostar avoids airport delays, fuel surcharges, waiting for baggage, and time spent getting to and from out-of-town airports."
