Eurostar: Railteam offers
29th August 2007
Railteam, the new cooperation between seven European high-speed rail networks, has been hailed by Eurostar as offering "a new choice" for travellers.
The collaboration between Eurostar (UK, France and Belgium) and DB (Germany), SNCF (France), NS Hispeed (Netherlands), ÖBB (Austria), SBB (Switzerland) and SNCB (Belgium) is intended to make booking and connecting rail travel easier for customers.
Describing the group, which was launched in July, Eurostar spokesman Simon Montague told BBC Radio 4's You and Yours programme: "What Railteam is about is recognising that there are already a whole load of national high-speed rail networks in Europe, taking those and then adding them all together to create one pan-European high-speed network."
In the same week that a leading budget airline was banned from making false claims that its London-Brussels service was faster and cheaper than Eurostar's offering, Mr Montague claimed that Railteam will offer a mode of European travel that is "frankly far more seamless, far more pleasant and far greener than flying".
Railteam anticipates that there will be 25 million international travellers using the European high-speed rail network. Its members hope that their collaboration can play a huge role in this.
Railbookers is ahead of Railteam by already offering seamless travel, and has been successfully doing so for the past four years. Railbookers prides itself on "making the right connections" for its customers.
